LIFE SOURCE 34235
Hello, we are First Lego League Team 34235, Life Source.
OUR PROBLEM
This year's theme, Hydrodynamics, addresses issues in the human water cycle. Our problem addresses water pipe leakage. Water leaks are a major problem in households and in the human water cycle. Often caused by a broken pipe or by a faulty washer, leakage can cost hundreds of dollars and thousands of litres of water if left unnoticed, and can cost hundreds more dollars if the leakage reaches flooring. In 2013, about 40% of all insurance claims were based on water damage (Aviva Canada), and in 2009, Ontario alone lost $700 million to leakage (CBC).
We are attempting to solve this problem with our prototype, the LifeSource Leak Detector.
OUR SOLUTION
The LifeSource Leak Detector is an innovative
solution that prevents water leaks in your
household.
Our product costs about $25 to produce. Since
the detector transmits data through WiFi, there
is no necessity for monitoring services. This
way, it’s a one-time fee instead of monthly fees.
OUR SOFTWARE
The leak detector attachment, coded and
programmed entirely with an Arduino micro
controller will strap on to your water meter
easily and read it. The data collected by the
attachment will then be sent to your mobile
device on the Life Source Leak Detector app.
Not only does the app notify you immediately
when a potential leak is detected, it also sends
water usage values, so you’re aware of how
much water you’re using.

Additionally, the purchase of the Life Source
Leak Detector includes an auto shut-off valve.
The auto shut-off valve allows you to wirelessly
shut off your water source immediately if for
some reason you are not able to do so manually.
(if you are out of home or busy, etc.)
